Exactly how To Develop A Residence Health Club On A Budget

Sharing tips on how to create a home gym on a budget and what equipment you really need.

Hi friends! Hope you’re enjoying the day so far and that all of my dad friends had a happy Father’s Day!

For this post, I wanted to chat about how to set up a home gym and what equipment you need, especially since many of us are still working out at home, or you might be considering creating a home gym on a budget.

Home gyms are getting even more popular since the pandemic started and there are SO MANY benefits to having your own gym at home. One of my favorite parts is that there’s zero commute time, and if the kids are home, I can just get in a workout while they play or watch a show.

Creating a home gym can be a bit challenging if you have a limited budget (some gym technology and gear is pricey!) but there are ways you can create a home gym that works for your needs without breaking the bank. You can also customize it based on what you like to do and what products you think you really need.

African-Mango-900_1-6.jpg

Before I get started, I just want to emphasize the fact that you don’t need fancy or expensive equipment to get in a great workout. All you need to get an awesome workout is a plan, sneakers that fit you, and motivation. Anything else is just a bonus.

How To Create A Home Gym On A Budget:

MO_amat_08-8.jpg

Take advantage of what you already have and create a wish list for future items

Create a list or spreadsheet with the items you currently have and prioritize the ones you have your eye on.

Create a budget and estimate expenses

Determine a total spending budget and after doing some searching online, you can estimate how much your total gym set-up will cost.

Invest in multi-tasking tools at first

An example of this is if you’re looking for strength training equipment, find something that you can use for multiple things (like dumbbells) and is versatile, before expanding into different products in the same theme (like barbells, kettlebells, etc.)

Create a dedicated workout space

This can be a full room in your house, a garage, an office corner, whatever you have the room to use. If you don’t have a dedicated space, you could even store your workout items in a closet in a large bin. If space is an issue, focus on the items that don’t take up a ton of room (like resistance bands, jump rope, small Pilates ball, etc.)

Buy secondhand equipment

I usually get lucky on Facebook marketplace, or when you hear about gyms closing or relocating, they’re often looking to sell their equipment (if they didn’t lease it).

Choose equipment you will actually use!

This one seems obvious but don’t purchase anything you won’t be excited to use in your routine. ? A spin bike makes a lovely clothing rack but would be a waste of money.

Here are some of my top home gym essentials!

Home Gym Essentials

– Weights and resistance training

Dumbbells: The classic never dies. I think if you add anything to a home gym, a couple of sets of dumbbells are really all you need and provide the best value and versatility. I’d go with a light pair (3-8 lbs) and a heavier set (12-25 lbs). Adjustable dumbbells are another great option if you don’t want to take up a ton of space.

Kettlebells: Kettlebells are a great way to switch up your strength training. I love using them for swings and unilateral strength work like single-leg deadlifts, shoulder presses, farmer carries, and rows. A kettlebell workout is here.

Barbells: If you’re used to strength training with dumbbells, a barbell can be a fun way to do something different.

Bowflex or cable machine: A Bowflex is a little less cumbersome than a cable machine and does a lot of the same things. I have this one and love it.

TRX: TRX is another one of my must-have items. You can install them anywhere, they’re extremely lightweight, and you can do so many exercises with them. My favorite TRX exercises are here.

Resistance bands: These are perfect if you’re a beginner and don’t want to purchase dumbbells yet, or if you have limited space. These are also wonderful for travel.

MO_amat_07-5.jpg

– Cardio options!

For cardio options, check out Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist. People are always getting rid of fitness equipment and you might find something awesome!

Treadmill: My #1 favorite brand is Woodway, but they’re hard to find, and Peloton offers a treadmill. <— I haven’t tried it but know it has to be good.

Spin bike: My Peloton is still one of my all-time favorite purchases. I use it at least once a week and LOVE the classes. The Pilot is hooked on it now, too! I recommend a spin bike because it’s low impact, you can get in an excellent cardio workout, and they don’t take up at insane amount of space. Check out my review of the Peloton bike here, and how to PR on the Peloton here. If you decide to go for it, email me and I’m happy to pass along my referral code.

Rowing machine: These are incredible to have at home if you want a different cardio option or you like interval training. I like the rowing increases strength and definition in arms and back, when these areas can be a bit neglected on the spin bike, treadmill, or starclimber. The IndoRow is my fave brand.

Battle rope: Battle ropes are so much fun (lots of exercises here!) and a fantastic way to get your heart rate up quickly.

Jump rope: This is the most economical cardio option. Grab a jump rope and do some jump intervals.

– Stretching, yoga, and recovery

Foam roller or rumble roller. My tips for foam rolling are here!

Mat. Any mat will do, and Target and Amazon offer inexpensive mat options. My all-time favorite mat is Manduka.

Theragun. This handy tool is inssannnnneee at relieving sore muscles. If you’re looking for an ultimate recovery tool, this is a good one.

– Fun extras:

MO_logo_3-6.jpg

(I miss my lil Bella Boo)

Apps and On Demand workouts:

Peloton App:

I think we all know I love Peloton. The classes are fantastic and I love the music. I will say I definitely prefer the cardio and yoga classes over the strength and bootcamp classes, but I think they do an incredible job. Check out my full review of the app here.

Les Mills On Demand:

Les Mills On Demand. Les Mills On Demand is one of my very favorite resources for home and travel workouts. The instructors are the best of the best and the workouts and science-driven and research-based for maximum effectiveness. They put a lot of care and science into the structure and design of their workouts, and you can tell. My top classes are BODYPUMP, BODY ATTACK, and GRIT. Get 21 days of Les Mills On Demand for free with this link.

Sweat app:

Sweat App. If you’re looking to follow a precise plan, the Sweat App is the place to be. They have so many different programs and I really like these workouts when I don’t want to think about anything and just go.

Barre apps:

Physique 57, Pure Barre and barre3. These are perfect if you’re looking for a barre workout! I used to prefer the P57 workouts but I feel like the On Demand ones have been a little stale lately.

More equipment:

A bench.

A pull-up bar. It’s fun to have family challenges but also kind of crazy that Liv and P can crank out pull-ups like it’s NBD.

Plyo boxes. Love these for step-ups, box jumps, box hops, and burpees with a box jump.

Sound system or even a portable Bluetooth speaker.

Do you work out at home or at the gym? If you could add anything to your workout space, what would it be? I really want a Peloton tread… or a Technogym Skill Mill.

Do you use any apps for classes?

xo

Did you know we can learn more about the thyroid from mineral testing?

Did you know we can learn about the thyroid from mineral testing? Yes, it’s true. Minerals really are the coolest! Read on to learn more about the thyroid and mineral testing!

MO_amat_12-4.jpg

One of the main reasons I personally got into mineral testing was because I had all the symptoms of thyroid dysfunction, however, my lab results were only slightly out of range. ⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣
This left me with no help from my doctor and confusion around how to restore proper thyroid function. ⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣
Eventually, I learned about about minerals! Specifically, calcium and potassium are the most important minerals for assessing thyroid function and have been game changers for helping me improve mine!

Thyroid and mineral testing

MO_amat_05-3.jpg
⁣⁣⁣⁣
Thyroid & ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣Calcium

When I see high calcium on HTMA tests, it means calcium isn’t where it should be (in the bones and teeth) and is leaving through your hair, which showing us that it’s likely binding to iodine receptors and slowing down your thyroid function. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

MO_amat_11-8.jpg
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
Thyroid & Potassium

Potassium is another important piece of the puzzle because it’s associated with the sensitivity of the tissues to the thyroid hormone. When we don’t have enough potassium, it can also impair thyroid function. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

The daily requirement for potassium is 4,600mg and most people don’t come anywhere near this amount!!

MO_amat_02-2.jpg
⁣⁣High Ca/K Ratio

When the Ca/K ratio is high… anything above 6.2 is considered high…

MO_amat_12-5.jpg

I often see clients struggling with hypothyroid symptoms:

  • weight gain
  • fatigue
  • dry skin
  • hair loss
  • brain fog
  • constipation
  • puffy face

MO_amat_08-5.jpg

I also see hypothyroid symptoms in clients when bioavailable copper is low. Does your thyroid need more copper?

When this ratio is REALLY high, like off the charts high, one of the first questions I’ve started asking is whether they are eating enough calories.

MO_logo_3-5.jpg

Yes, the Ca/K ratio can be high due to an overconsumption of calcium and/or lack of potassium, but a lot of the time, I’ll see a diet super low in calories.

Oftentimes, clients will see considerable improvements with their symptoms (and body composition) by eating more calories and giving their thyroid the proper fuel it needs to work efficiently. The thyroid does not like to be starved of energy!

MO_packshot_01-2.jpg

If you’re eating ‘clean’ and your Ca/K is off the charts, I recommend tracking your food for a few days to see how many calories you are getting. Many women are surprised they aren’t eating enough calories!

If you think your thyroid needs a little love and mineral testing might be helpful to you, please apply for 1:1 coaching and testing!

Fat Joe Weight Loss 2022: Diet Regimen, Workout, Prior to as well as After

Joseph Antonio Cartagena is an American rapper. He is better known by his stage name, Fat Joe. Although Joe started his music career as a member of the D.I.T.C band, later he started singing solo. His debut solo album was Represent.

Fat Joe has also appeared in several movies as well including Netflix’s She’s Gotta Have It. As his stage name suggests, throughout his life, Joe has struggled with obesity. At one point in his life, Joe reached his highest weight of 350 pounds.

MO_amat_06-6.jpg

After the doctor suggested Joe lose weight, he embarked on his weight loss journey. At first, it proved to be super hard to make some changes and get out of his comfort zone. However, Fat Joe had the idea of changing himself forever.

And in the end, it was this idea and his determination that kept him pushing forward. By working hard and changing his lifestyle, Joe succeeded in getting slimmer by more than 100 pounds. It came as a shock for his fans who thought that Fat Joe had made being fat his identity.

Find out how the American comedian, Gary Anthony Williams, lost 155 pounds.

Fat Joe’s Weight Loss Journey

Throughout his life, Joe has undergone a weight loss journey multiple times. He tried to lose weight in 2005 and succeeded in getting rid of 40 pounds, however, it didn’t make a big difference given Joe’s weight. So in 2011, he tried to lose weight again.

This time Fat Joe succeeded in changing his life forever. However, it didn’t come as easy as you read it. Fat Joe had to undergo a lot to make a big difference this time. Because his doctor had warned him that if he didn’t make a change in his physique now he might have to suffer from diabetes.

There was another factor that helped Fat Joe in pursuing his weight loss journey. Talking about his realization, he said, “I realized at a certain point, all my big people were dying. I couldn’t see a clearer picture, what’s the difference between me and him, of me being in a casket?”

How did Fat Joe Lose 100 Pounds?

Fat Joe lost weight because one by one he eliminated all his negative habits. Habits that were harming him and replaced them with the ones that worked in his favor. He lost weight because he stayed consistent throughout his journey and didn’t stray from the path.

Joe’s Diet Plan

In order to shed pounds, Fat Joe followed a low-carb diet. He eliminated bread, rice, and pasta from his diet. When asked what was the “methodology” of his weight loss, Joe answered, “I was trying to lose weight for more than 10 years, so I had learned a lot along the way.”

He added, “It was simple science, man. I educated myself about that and it is the number one way to lose weight. On what’s harming you and what’s not. I ate sweet potatoes a lot. And I am telling you that sweet potatoes are good for everyone. Pasta ain’t good, rice ain’t good, and beans ain’t good.”

Joe said that he eats carbs only in the morning and for the rest of the day, carbs are a big no. For the rest of the day, Joe’s diet consists of bacon, fish, and salad. He also limited his alcohol consumption. All this restraint from the unhealthy food helped him in getting lighter.

Joe’s Workout Plan

Joe also exercised to burn calories. He joined the gym in his neighborhood, which he visited five days a week, leaving only weekends. He would lift weights, do push-ups, squats, and do cycling. Although Fat Joe exercised, his main focus was on his diet.

Before & After Weight Loss

MO_packshot_01-1.jpg

Which magnesium supplement is ideal for you?

If you’ve heard a lot about magnesium lately, it’s for good reason! Wondering about the different types of magnesium and which one is best for you?

And… if you have hormonal imbalance, listen up!

Our bodies actually DON’T run on hormones. Instead, they run on 9,000 enzymes… and just a handful of minerals activate these enzymes – magnesium being one of them!

Magnesium is associated with 3,751 enzymes, and it’s the catalyst for over 600 chemical reactions in the body. Amazing, right?

Clearly, magnesium is a BIG DEAL, but most of us are deficient in this important mineral. In fact, it’s estimated that up to 2/3 of Americans are deficient in magnesium.

Even if you’re eating plenty of spinach, avocados, and pumpkin seeds, you’re still likely to be low in magnesium.

Symptoms of magnesium deficiency

  • Osteoporosis
  • Depression
  • PMS
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Noise sensitivity
  • Hypothyroidism
  • Anxiety
  • Hyperactivity
  • Tremors
  • Excessive sweating

Stress (!!), pregnancy, and coffee consumption can deplete magnesium, so sometimes it’s helpful to supplement with the right type of magnesium.

There are 8 common types of magnesium, each with their own benefits and disadvantages. The ones listed below include just some of the benefits of each to get you started with choosing the best option. Be sure to do your own research and talk to your doctor before adding one to your regimen.

Different types of magnesium

MO_packshot_06-1.jpg

I personally use magnesium glycinate because it’s generally well-absorbed and helpful for anxiety and restful sleep.

How much magnesium should you take?

The RDA for adult females is 310 mg (and 350 mg for pregnant females), but some people might need higher (or lower) doses of magnesium for optimal health. Some of our clients take anywhere from 500-700 mg daily. Again, talk to your doctor and do what’s best for you!

Click the link below to sign up for an account in the CNC online dispensary. From there, click on View Catalog. Either search for the magnesium of your choice or check out my favorites.

If you have any trouble finding it or have any questions, just send us an email at info carrotsncake.com. We are happy to help!

9 Cozy Weather Condition Tasks That Lantern Calories

Summer has to be the most active time of the year, with so many chores to be done and opportunities to get outside and enjoy the warm weather. While you’re busy taking advantage of the season, you can also burn off excess calories, helping to speed up your progress toward your weight loss goal. Here are nine popular warm weather activities that kick up your metabolism while you go about your days—no visit to the gym required.

1. Mopping the Floor

The minute the weather turns warm, cleaning tops the “to-do” list in many homes. When you get out the bucket and mop, and move at a steady pace back and forth across the floor, you’ll torch calories plus tone your arms and strengthen your core muscles as your metabolism heats up.

2. Dusting and Vacuuming

Wiping down your furniture, shelves and decorations gets rid of dust and potential allergens. It also keeps you moving around, bending and stretching as you go. Pushing the vacuum not only removes dirt and other debris from your carpets and floors, it activates your back and leg muscles and cranks up your internal calorie-burning engines.

Calories burned: 160 per hour

3. Ironing

Smoothing wrinkles and pressing creases into your clothes and linens is steady, methodical work you do while on your feet. That effort leads not only to a pile of well-maintained laundry… it can lead to a pile of sweat as well! Try ironing a week’s worth of clothes all at once, then hanging them where they can’t be wrinkled again. You’ll be thanking yourself on those busy weekday mornings, and your waist line will thank you, too!

4. Painting Walls

When a room in your home needs a fresh coat of paint, there are many tools to work with and tasks to do, from moving furniture to reaching with the roller brush. All of those add up to significant calorie-burning that helps you end up with a fresh look, too.

Calories burned: 350 per hour

5. Mowing the Lawn

Walking back and forth as your power mower cuts the grass keeps your yard looking neat and your body, trim. You don’t get the same benefit from a riding mower, but you can really amp up your calorie burning by using a mower powered only by your legs.

7. Washing the Car

Sure, you can go to the drive-through car wash, but rinsing, scrubbing and drying your own vehicle is pleasant on a warm day and it burns calories while you’re at it. Vacuum and polish the interior to get the maximum benefit.

8. Playing in the Yard With the Kids

Taking the kids to play in the backyard is an easy way to burn a few extra calories. Have a swing set? A sliding board and jungle gym helps the kids burn off energy and stay active. The little ones will love for you to join in and you’ll remember what fun it is to play as you turn up your metabolism.

Calories burned: 300 per hour

9. Riding a Bicycle

Pedaling around on two wheels with the warm breeze in your face is a simple joy that can bring you back to carefree childhood days. Skip the skintight clothes and hunched over posture and just ride for fun (with or without kids). While you pedal and smile, your body torches a whole lot of calories.

Calories burned: 400 per hour

*Calories burned are the average for a 155-pound person, based on a report from the Harvard University School of Public Health.
