Anti aging creams, sometimes called anti-wrinkle creams, are primarily moisturizer-based, therapeutic skin care products sold with the claim of making the user look younger by eliminating, masking, or otherwise preventing visible signs of aging skin. The cosmetic industry is booming with all sorts of new wrinkle reduction treatments and anti-aging products, but what works for one person may not necessarily work for another. Some people are just more apt to react to natural or organic anti aging creams or lotions than others. What is common, though, is that if you have dry skin and/or wrinkles, any anti aging skin care treatment you choose will most likely not be very effective. This is because many typical anti aging creams contain chemical preservatives, fragrances, alcohols, mineral oils or other petroleum-based products that can clog your pores and cause premature aging and other health issues.
Some are still using poorly designed water-based "peels" and "moisturizers" in their anti-aging cream. These products are supposed to keep your skin soft, smooth and youthful looking. But most don't provide enough vitamin A or zinc to be of much help when it comes to reversing skin aging. Some use astringents and/or chemical peels to exfoliate and clean the skin. Others have ineffective alcohol-based cleansers and "moisturizers."
An anti-aging cream, as you probably know, is supposed to provide a benefit in the form of visible results. And some provide such results, at least to some extent. But the problem with most anti aging creams is that they do nothing to repair the underlying damage done by the sun, air and other environmental irritants over time. Only those products with active biotechnology ingredients can reverse the damaging effects of the sun, wind, heat and many chemicals in daily living. But you need to be careful which anti aging cream you choose.
The problem with some current anti aging creams is that they don't provide an all-natural ingredient base. They contain only very mild chemicals that are not particularly useful for reversing wrinkles or erasing age spots. At best, they offer temporary relief. That's because they act to fight certain signs of aging, but the underlying causes remain.
For example, most creams for "firming" skin will contain collagen or elastin. You might not have heard of them, but both are proteins made by living cells. Collagen keeps your connective tissue firm, while elastin helps maintain your skin's elasticity. As you get older, both substances break down. The connective tissues are then damaged by the sun's ultraviolet rays and pollution. As a result, the skin loses its firmness, becomes loose and wrinkled.
So, an anti-aging cream that contains collagen is not going to help you at all. The best you can hope for is an ingredient called Functional Keratin. This is a protein peptide extracted from wool glands of New Zealand that stimulates the production of your collagen and elastin molecules. In time, your skin will be filled with these molecules, making it firmer and more youthful. As it does so, wrinkles will eventually become less noticeable.
Another key element in an anti aging cream should be antioxidant activity. When damage to the cells occurs, antioxidants come in to save the day. In doing so, they neutralize damaging free radicals. As free radicals continue to destroy cells in your body, the production of new collagen and elastin begins to decline. By using an anti-aging cream that contains antioxidants, you can delay the onset of aging altogether.
An anti-aging cream containing Phytessence Wakame will also increase the amount of hyaluronic acid you have in your skin. This acid is responsible for keeping your skin firm, smooth and youthful looking. Many of the compounds used in anti-aging creams are derived from wakame kelp, but a certain allergen called mites can cause a reaction in some people. An anti-aging cream containing the extract of wakame will counteract the effects mites can have on your skin. In addition to hyaluronic acid and Phytessence Wakame extracts, a good anti-aging cream should contain ingredients such as Cynergy TK, Nano-Lipobelle H EQ10 and Coenzyme Q10.
